Actor turned award-winning filmmaker Dean Francis
Dean is an Actor, Director and Cinematographer who's work includes the feature films Road Train (2011), Drown (2015) and Lonesome (2021). He's also directed hundreds of commercials and his work has won dozens of awards right around the world.
Dean has watched thousands of Self-Tape auditions and understands intimately what works and what doesn't.
He's taught actors and filmmakers at Australia's leading creative institutions including the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Dean is also the founder of JJ Splice Digital, a commercial agency with clients including NSW Health, Merivale, eBay and Uber; as well as the CEO of JJ Splice Showreels, which has spotlighted some of Australia's most promising performers.

What if I’ve got no experience at all in filmmaking or shooting videos?

What if I don’t own any filmmaking equipment?
Its totally fine. As long as you have one device which can capture video - such as a smartphone - you already have the tools to create a professional Self-Tape and inside this course you will gain the technique.
Can I still enrol in the course if I’ve never acted before?
You can! Because as well as being a professional tool to book work, Self-Tape auditions are a fantastic way to learn acting and develop your craft.
